0.5 inches of rain in place that only gets 9 inches of rain a year is an occasion to celebrate. I was very lucky to arrive at the end of that storm so only had about 1 hour of rain to deal with but I knew the opportunities would be amazing if I could find the right location. This where visiting and revisiting a location pays off.

After stopping for a few shots I drove up to the plateau and carefully made my way across the slick rock to search out reflections in the pools of water left on the sandstone. These pools don't last long so when you can get them you have to take advantage of the opportunity.

I had been photographing the amazing early evening light on the formation I call Neferti's throne when I noticed out of the corner of my eye the color and light changing over the formation called Park Avenue. This formation is almost always shot from the west side which has a view that is reminiscent of a city skyline, this view is from the east side.
